Tool tracking with KLM Engineering
CASE STUDY:TOOL TRACKING
Background
KLM UK Engineering, an aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) service provider, have a variety of assets such as ground servicing equipment (GSE) housed across multiple large hangars. This posed challenges in operational efficiency and compliance, especially during third-party audits.
CASE STUDY:TOOL TRACKING
The challenge & solution
TOOL VISIBILITY
The lack of asset visibility led to time being lost searching for tools and equipment during operations and audits. This increased costs through wasted engineer and auditor efforts and risked non-compliance with aerospace standards. Misplaced equipment also heightened safety concerns about the potential for foreign object debris (FOD) around aircraft.
BLUETOOTH TAGS
Our solution involved implementing a Detector network. Next, each asset, from Makita drills to engine stands, was fitted with a BLE Tag for zonal location. Additionally, Ultra-Wideband (UWB) technology was used in some areas for sub-2-meter location accuracy. This was especially crucial in busy environments.
CASE STUDY:TOOL TRACKING
The results
The time required to locate tools reduced by 94%, leading to significant operational cost savings. Compliance and auditing metrics saw an 80% improvement, addressing the previous delays and costs associated with the audit process.
We needed a powerful yet quick to deploy and simple to use equipment asset tracking solution for our engineers.
Pathfindr gave us just that and so much more!
